What is the difference between a web store and a marketplace?

There are several differences between one and the other.

Online store: You can customize the look and feel since you own it, add features and integrate it with a content website. You should have a strategy to promote your store.

We build stores on paid platforms like Shopify or open platforms like Woocommerce.

Marketplace:  You have a ready to buy marketplace, your products are listed along with your competitors, you will pay a commission depending on the category. Products and shipping logistics are provided in the policies of each marketplace.

What is the difference between Woocommerce and Shopify?

These platforms for creating online stores have certain differences. Learn more about them:

Woocommerce: open platform, which allows incorporation of functions through plugins or development. More flexibility in terms of product types and total control of the logistics of payments and shipments. There is no monthly fee for the use of the platform.

Shopify: Shopify: Paid platform that in exchange for a monthly subscription offers a more intuitive and easy to update and interconnect environment, with an app for monitoring sales and performance reports.

What is the difference between Amazon and Mercado Libre?

Both marketplaces offer great options for selling your products. Learn about the main differences here:

Amazon: US marketplace that charges a monthly fee of $36.00 USD (unless you apply to the Handmade program) plus a referral fee. When you pay your subscription you enable the sale in the US and Canada.

Mercado Libre: Argentinian marketplace that offers the possibility of free or promoted publications and charges a commission depending on the product category.

What is a payment gateway?

It is the service of an intermediary that collects the payment from your customer's card and transfers the funds to your bank account, for which it charges a commission.

In the case of online stores it is necessary to have one. Woocommerce is open to most payment gateways while Shopify works by default with PayPal, Mercadopago and Conekta.

In the case of marketplaces, a payment gateway is not required as they incorporate this service.

What is Amazon Handmade?

It is an Amazon program that allows artisans or small collectives of artisans who manufacture at least 70% of their products, to be exempt from the monthly subscription fee and also have lower referral fees. You can learn more by clicking here.

  • Proof of tax status (not older than 3 months).
  • Deliver all the necessary information at the moment of starting the project.
  • To sell on Amazon it is necessary that your product has a barcode or request a GTIN exemption.
